How To: RandTune Keeps Your Android Fresh with Random Ringtones & Sounds
After a few months, I get so fed up with hearing the same ringtone go off alongside each new notification that I'm forced to switch things up—only to end up repeating this whole process when the new one gets played out. And I'm sure people around me are equally sick of listening to that tired old tone towards the end as well. I mean, a decade later, I'm convinced that Nokia tone is permanently implanted in my brain.If you feel the same way about ringtone decay, a new app from developer Dmytro may finally be able to cure your woes. By automatically randomizing your ringtone or notification sound from a playlist of your choosing, this app will see to it that you never get tired of the sounds your phone makes again.
Step 1: Copy MP3 Ringtones to a Folder on Your PhoneBefore you get started, you'll need to have a set of ringtones that the app can randomize. These ringtones will need to be in MP3 format, and you'll need to have them saved somewhere on your phone's internal storage.You can either download ringtones onto your computer, then transfer them over to your phone, or you can download MP3 files directly from your phone. To help get you started, I've created a ZIP file that contains several ringtones pulled from different Android devices, which you can download from this link.
Step 2: Install RandTuneNow that you've taken care of that, you'll just need to install the app that will randomize your ringtones. It's called RandTune, and it's available for free on the Google Play Store. Either search for the app by name to get it installed, or use the following link to jump directly to the install page:Install RandTune for free from the Google Play Store
Step 3: Select the Ringtones to Be RandomizedAfter opening RandTune, you'll notice two tabs at the top of the screen—select the one on the left to randomize your phone's ringtone, or choose the tab on the right to randomize your notification sounds.From here, tap the floating action button at the bottom of the screen, then you'll see additional options. The button on the left is for selecting a single file, and the button on the right is for selecting a folder full of ringtones or notification sounds, so choose the one that works best for you. Next, you'll see a file browser menu, which you should use to navigate to the folder on your phone that contains the ringtones or notification sounds. Once you've selected this folder, tap the "Select Directory" button at the bottom of this menu, then all of your ringtones will be imported. From now on, RandTune will see to it that all of the ringtones or notification sounds you imported are randomized, so every time your phone beeps or rings, you'll hear a different tune. Just note that if you contact-specific ringtones or notification sounds, RandTune will override them.What ringtones are in your RandTune directory right now?
