Animoji: How to Create a Personal Memoji on the iPhone X

Animoji: How to Create a Personal Memoji on the iPhone X
Apple's Animoji are already a huge success, but now they're getting even better. Along with four new Animoji, iOS 12 is bringing a new feature called Memoji that lets you make your own face-tracking caricature to use in iMessages and FaceTime.Think of Memoji as a personalized Bitmoji that works like a Snapchat filter. Functionally, they're exactly the same as Animoji, except you can customize their appearance. So you can make your Memoji look like a cartoon version of yourself, then you can use your iPhone X's AR features to bring your Memoji to life.

Creating a MemojiFirst, your iPhone X will need to be running iOS 12 to try this feature. The developer beta is available to install right now, and the public beta will be out in the coming weeks. Either way you go, you can use the following guide to get iOS 12 installed:Don't Miss: How to Install iOS 12 on Your iPhone Right Now With iOS 12 installed, head to any thread in your Messages app and tap the App Store icon to the left of the text field, then hit the Animoji icon on the menu bar that appears below the text field. From there, scroll over to the left of the list and tap the + button to start creating a Memoji. From here, things are fairly self explanatory, but I'll guide you through it just to be safe. Start by picking a skin tone, and remember, Memojis are only for your face. Once you've picked a base skin tone, you can use the slider to make fine-tuned adjustments. Next, scroll down this same page and you can pick the amount of freckles to add to your face, if any. Once you're done with the first tab, either swipe left to move to the next tab, or simply tap the "Hairstyle" label to select it manually. Much like the skin tone tab, you can select a color, then use the slider to fine tune. Here, there's also a color-picker button on the far right that will reveal even more color options. After setting a hair color, scroll down to pick a hairstyle. Next, swipe left to change your head shape, then continue this process for your eyes, brows, nose, lips, ears, facial hair, and accessories. Each menu along the way will be virtually identical to the two depicted above, except with different choices. When you're satisfied with the look of your Memoji, make sure to tap the "Done" button in the top-right corner. From here, you can use your Memoji in the Messages app by selecting the Animoji icon in a message thread again. If you want to go back and make changes to it, tap the ellipses icon next to it in this menu, then choose "Edit." You can actually make more than one Memoji if you'd like. Just open your Messages app and head to any iMessage thread, then tap the Animoji icon in the menu bar above your keyboard. Scroll over to the left of your first Memoji and hit the + button again, and you'll start over from the beginning. So far, I've made six Memoji just fine, so there doesn't appear to be a limit to how many you can create.Like Animoji, you can overlay your face with a Memoji during FaceTime video calls in iOS 12. If you'd like to learn more about how that works, be sure to hit up the following guide.Don't Miss: How to Use Animoji & Memoji in FaceTime Video Calls on iOS 12Follow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard
