Apple Music 101: How to Share Songs with Nearby Friends Using AirDrop on Your iPhone
Apple Music's name reveals a lot about itself — it's made by Apple, and it has a lot of music. 40 million songs, in fact, if the iPhone-maker is to be believed. With that many songs, you may find a gem before any of your friends or family do. How can you share that song with them? With AirDrop, of course! It might not be apparent, but with iOS 11 and higher, AirDrop is fully integrated with Apple Music. This makes introducing others to your music quick and easy, granted those people are in the same space as you. So keep reading to find out how to impose — I mean, share — your Apple Music with other people.Don't Miss: How to Access Your AirDrop Settings on Your iPhone

Sharing Songs with AirDropNote that the following refers to music found on the Apple Music subscription service, either online or downloaded to your device, but not your own personal imported library. Music you have imported into iTunes, then synced to your iPhone cannot be shared. However, music you have saved to iCloud through iTunes Match can be shared. To start, choose a song from Apple Music. The song can be from your personal library or it can be from any part of the Apple Music app, such as the Browse or For You sections.Once you have chosen a song, either 3D Touch that song or, if using an iPhone without 3D Touch, long-press the song. An options menu will appear. Tap "Share Song," then you'll see a list of potential AirDrop recipients at the top of the share screen — just choose the person you'd like to share with, then you'll be all set! If you are already playing a song, sharing is just as simple. Just tap the ••• button in the bottom-right corner of the display, and the same options menu from above will appear. Follow the same steps, and you'll be good to go. If the iPhone you are trying to share with does not appear in the share menu, make sure both you and your target have AirDrop enabled. Swipe up to view the Control Center, then 3D Touch or long-press the network settings in the top-left corner. From there, make sure the AirDrop toggle is turned on, and verify that both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled as well. (1) Notifications Settings. (2) Make sure AirDrop, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth are all enabled. On the receiving end, the other person will see a prompt asking them if they'd like to accept the AirDrop. When they do, the song will open in Apple Music on their device, provided they have iOS 8.4 or higher installed. How do you like to share your latest musical discoveries? News: It's OfficialThe Made by Google Pixel Smartphones Are Here

News: It's OfficialThe Made by Google Pixel Smartphones Are Here
At an event in Mountain View, CA, and watched by fans via live stream on YouTube, Google announced a slew of new products today. Over the last few weeks, there was no shortage of rumors and leaks about what might be unveiled, but now the secrets are out.As expected, Google has announced the new Pixel smartphones to replace the Nexus line. The new devices, which currently come in two sizes yet share every specification but display size, are Google-branded with a "G" logo despite being manufactured by HTC. This is a major departure from the tradition of partnering with companies like Huawei or LG for each generation of Nexus phones. As you can see from the specs below, Google is not pulling their punches with this debut offering.
Google Pixel & Pixel XL SpecsDon't Miss:The Pixel Exemplifies Google's New Hardware PhilosophyAndroid 7.1 Nougat Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor 2.15 GHz + 1.6 GHz Quad-Core processor Adreno 530 GPU 4 GB RAM 32 GB or 128 GB internal storage 5-inch AMOLED Full-HD 441 ppi display (Pixel) 5.5-inch AMOLED QHD 534 ppi display (Pixel XL) 2,770 mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge (Pixel) 3,450 mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge (Pixel XL) 12.3 MP rear camera, f/2.0, 1.55 µm large pixels 8 MP front camera, f/2.0, 1.4 µm pixels USB Type-C Bluetooth 4.2 Pixel Imprint fingerprint sensor aluminum unibody and polished glass combination 3 colors (Very Silver, Quite Black, Really Blue) and, yes... a 3.5 mm headphone jack The biggest news spec-wise is that the devices will both be running on the Snapdragon 821. As I mentioned in the rumor roundup last week, this means that the Pixel and Pixel XL will be the first devices to be fully capable of running apps designed for the Daydream View virtual reality headset. It also means that Google's own devices are just that much better than the flagship devices launched this year by pretty much all of their partner OEMs, most of which have Snapdragon 820 chips. We also see that the devices will feature USB Type-C ports with a fast charging technology, likely Qualcomm's Quick Charge considering it comes as a standard option on the Snapdragon 800 series processors. Thanks to this technology, just a 15-minute charge provides up to 7 hours of battery life. Additionally, the specs section claims that the 3,450 mAh battery (Pixel XL) will enable 26 hours of talk time and 456 hours of standby.Beyond just the hardware numbers, Google is leveraging its unique position as creator of the Android OS to deliver a cohesive user experience with software and features that their competitors will be hard-pressed to match. Among these are photo features like Smart Burst, Smart Photos, and unlimited cloud storage. Unsurprisingly, both Allo and Duo, Google's recently launched messaging apps, are front and center, as is Google Assistant.
Google AssistantPixel will be the first phone with Google Assistant built in. This means that with a hot word and voice search, Google Assistant is there and ready to offer up information or help with tasks such as scheduling, finding relevant information like nearby restaurants or events, or pulling up photos from a specific time period ("show me my photos from last October"). During the demo, the Google Assistant was able to take basic voice inputs and make cognitive leaps based on the context of past searches and even what's already on your screen. When Sundar Pichai took the stage at the start of today's event, he got straight to the point: Google wants to give us an AI-first world. To this end, Google Assistant—with its impressive capabilities to understand natural human language—will be your own, individual "personal Google." When Apple announced Siri a few years ago, it was a lot of hype that never quite reached its potential. Of course, we've come a long way since then, and there are a number of virtual assistant offerings available—but none have Google's deep data pockets to pull from.

Pixel PhotographyWith all the boast and brag from last month's iPhone 7 launch, there are some people at Apple who are likely grinding their teeth at the moment. DxOMark Mobile, an industry standard for camera ratings, gave Pixel a score of 89, whereas the iPhone 7 only got an 86 (though, they haven't rated the iPhone 7 Plus yet). So, yeah, at least for the moment, this really is the best smartphone camera ever made. And with a shorter capture time than other smartphones and the rest of the built-in photo/video package—like Smart Burst, HDR Plus, and that beautiful video stabilization feature—Google is setting a high bar for next year's flagships. Image via Google Pixel also comes with Google Photos built in to store and organize photos. This means that Pixel owners will get free (yep!) unlimited storage for photos and videos at their original full resolution—including the 4K videos that these devices are able to capture. Considering how much space is taken up by images and videos on our phones, a device whose selling point is "no running out of space" is a pretty big deal. The Pixel phones will come in three colors: Quite Black, Very Silver, and Really Blue. They will work on Project Fi and are available for preorder in the US beginning today, starting at $649 (or $27/month) on Google Store. They're also available from Verizon Wireless. Included in each box, you'll also get a OTG adapter that makes switching from iPhone insanely easy, and each device comes with 24/7 live customer care. Will you be making the switch to Pixel? Tell us why or why not in the comments.Follow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and YouTube Follow Android Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google

How To: Get Windows 8.1 Today for Free

How To: Get Windows 8.1 Today for Free

Microsoft released a preview version of Windows 8.1 today, notably adding an updated Start screen, the ability to run several Windows 8 apps side by side in a number of configurations, fully integrated search, better HiDPI support for multiple monitors, and for those who miss it, options to bring back the Start button or boot straight to the desktop. The good news is, you don't have to be a developer to get it! You just have to be running Windows 8 or Windows RT on your device. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.Images via microsoft.com

Step 1: Download & Install the Preview UpdateJust head over to Microsoft's Download Windows 8.1 Preview page and click Get the Update. If you're currently viewing the page with a Mac, you'll get a message about ISO files instead. Image via wonderhowto.com Note: If you're running an enterprise version of Windows, you'll have to go get the ISO file from MSDN and burn a DVD to install the Windows update. If you don't have access to MSDN downloads, contact your system administrator, or whoever installed or gave you your copy of Windows 8 Enterprise Edition. This will download a small file that'll update your Windows Store app to let you download the full update. This process is pretty quick, as you can see in the gallery below, but don't be fooled—it's not the full Windows 8.1 update (at least, not yet).
Step 2: RebootAfter a quick reboot, your PC will be ready to install the Windows 8.1 Preview.Note: You are not running Windows 8.1 yet at this point. You've just made sure your computer is able to access the Preview from the Windows Store app before anyone else.

Step 3: Download Windows 8.1 from the Windows App StoreHead to your Start menu and launch the Store app. You can't possibly miss the giant new Update Windows option. Give that a tap, and tap download to start the process. This will be a monster of a file coming in at 2.4GB, so it may take a few hours to download depending on your internet connection speed.
Step 4: Surf WonderHowToYou've got some time to kill while it's downloading and installing, and somehow this major update has been built to install in the background without hogging your whole PC. Why not learn some new skills while you're waiting? You'll see a toast notification fly in once the initial download completes, but you can just ignore it as it'll silently continue installing in the background.
Step 5: Reboot AgainThis reboot will take a little while as it finishes installing all the updates. Go outside. Stretch. Maybe use some of the new skills you learned from the last step. Come back in 10-20 minutes.
Step 6: You're Done!Go through the setup wizard to activate the new auto-update features, and link your Microsoft account. Your PC will now re-download all your Store apps, giving you an early preview of the much improved Music app, and ensuring that any apps implementing new Windows 8.1 functionality will work properly.
A Warning to Windows RT UsersOnce you upgrade, you can't go back. Windows 8 users can always reinstall Windows, but given the locked-down nature of Windows RT, this update is permanent. Just make sure you're certain before you take the plunge.
TroubleshootingKeep in mind, this is an early preview. It will be buggy. If you're not comfortable running pre-release software, you shouldn't try it just yet.If you decide to take the plunge and you end up running into trouble along the way, check out the Microsoft Windows 8.1 Preview FAQ.Notably, if your PC has an Intel Atom processor, you won't be able to try the preview just yet as its graphics drivers haven't been updated yet.If your issue isn't covered in the FAQ, you can post your questions in the comments below, or hit up the Windows 8.1 Support Forum which will get you in touch with others having similar problems, and experts who've figured out how to fix them.

iOS 11.0.1 or iOS 11.1 will bring Apple Pay Cash, a feature that will allow people to send money to others via Apple Pay built into apps like iMessage, to the masses and not iOS 11.0, Apple has confirmed. News: 1 in 4 iPhone Users Still Haven't Updated to iOS 11

News: 1 in 4 iPhone Users Still Haven't Updated to iOS 11
From its official launch back in September, iOS 11 has been equal parts revered as it has been criticized. Even with all the great, new features we've come to expect from a major iOS update, plenty of bugs and glitches have forced users to overlook the positives. Perhaps that is why, four months later, 25% of iPhone owners are still running iOS 10.3 or earlier.According to Apteligent Data, only 75.7% of iOS users have adopted the newest version of Apple's mobile software. A whopping 17.9% of users still run some variant of iOS 10, while 5.63% are still on iOS 9. The remaining users, which is about 1% of devices, run either iOS 8, 7, or 6.Don't Miss: 20 Things That Suck About iOS 11 for iPhone Those who purchased one of the late-2017 model iPhones, i.e., the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X, don't have a choice in whether to upgrade or not. Those phones come preinstalled with iOS 11, with no way to downgrade.Of course, these statistics from Apteligent Data aren't just considering iPhones since iOS also runs on both iPads and iPod touches. This does stretch the numbers beyond what solely iPhone ownership would represent. There are 10 iPad models that can run either iOS 10 or iOS 11, as well as just one iPod touch, but anyone that still uses an iPhone 5 or older, fourth-generation iPad or older, or fifth-generation iPod touch or older cannot update to iOS 11, which can be one explanation for the low adoption rate. There are many other theories and thoughts as to why one-quarter of iOS users are not upgrading. There's certainly some truth to iOS 11's bad press driving users away, however, there are also other considerations. While it would make sense that the battery scandal late last year would stop users from upgrading, those issues started with iOS 10.2.1, not any particular version of iOS 11.Don't Miss: Will Apple's $29 Battery Replacement Speed Up Your iPhone? Another explanation includes a disruptive feature of iOS 11 — the retirement of 32-bit apps. There are a considerable amount of apps in the App Store that have not been upgraded to 64-bit standards. While that wasn't such a big deal in the past, iOS 11 effectively kills those apps by only allowing 64-bit apps to run on iOS. Users who upgrade have to say goodbye to any apps abandoned or not updated by developers (adios, Flappy Bird). One more obvious explanation includes jailbreakers, since Cydia is not yet compatible with iOS 11, a huge factor to consider even though there are a few iOS 11 jailbreaks available. It's also possible a chunk of these users just can't be bothered to upgrade their devices. Most of us know users with that red alert in their Settings app — they see the upgrade pending but choose to ignore it. After all, they're used to the way their iPhone, iPad, or iPod already is — why change?Hopefully, with some future fixes, Apple can offer those users a reason to update.Don't Miss: 20 Cool New Features in iOS 11.3 for iPhone Follow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard

How To: Stream Personal Movies, Music, & Photos to Chromecast from Any Android Device
It's been a great week for Chromecast owners. First, Google released the development kit, allowing devs to install the casting code into their apps. Then, CyanogenMod dev Koush updated his AllCast app to support the Chromecast. That means you can shoot personal movies, music, and photos directly from your Android device over to a Chromecast-connected display. This is inherently different from the Chromecast's stated purpose, in which it receives a link to a Netflix video or Play Music song and handles the loading and streaming itself, with your Android "sender" operating merely as a remote.AllCast shifts this functionality slightly. Files are still sent to the Chromecast, only they are loaded from the "sender" device, allowing you to play local content instead. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.

Step 1: Grab AllCast & Google Play ServicesAlong with a Chromecast dongle, we'll need a couple of apps to get started. First, grab the AllCast app from Google Play. Then download and install the latest version of Google Play Services, which enables Chromecast functionality for AllCast. Image via wonderhowto.com

Step 2: Setup AllCast with Your ChromecastNow, head into AllCast and select your dongle. As you can see below, my device is named °°MATA°°. Image via wonderhowto.com When you see your Chromecast, simply tap on its name to select it.

Step 3: Cast Your ContentAfter the initial setup, you'll be taken to the app's gallery, where you can select what content you want to send to the Chromecast. Now just tap on whatever you want to cast and it'll shoot over to your screen. It's really that easy.
Unleashing Full FunctionalityYou can cast any photos on your device, but movies and music are limited to one minute of casting on the free version of AllCast. To get unlimited casting, grab the AllCast Premium version for $4.99 to install alongside the free app.I'm not usually one to push paid apps, but in this case, the decision was easy. I store a lot of content on my devices, some of which aren't easily accessible through Hulu+ or Netflix. Rather than using a bulky HDMI cord, I can let AllCast take care of my binge-watching needs.AllCast is in active development, and more features are sure to make their way into the app, including the possibility of full-on screen mirroring, making that five bucks some of the easiest money you'll spend all week.
